Hobby

The spelling HOBBY was an early form after „Hobbing“ and was common in the 17th and 18th century in the family lines in Linswege, Hollwege, Apen, Howiek and Torsholt, also in the variations „Hobbye“, „Hobbeie“, „Hobbi“, „Hobbje“ and „Hobje“. From the end of the 18th century „Hobbie“ also became established in these lines.

Only among the East Frisian families from Potshausen were the patromymic surnames Eilers and Hinrichs replaced from 1811 by the name of the Oldenburg ancestors „HOBBY“, which is still used today by the families „Hobbie from Potshausen„.
