The settlement of Rastederberg, directly south of the municipality Jaderberg, lies on a geological ridge which was initially called „uppn Berge“ (on a hill) and „biem Berge“ and was inhabited by Köter as early as 1600. With the division between the „Vogteien“ (bailiwicks) Jade and Rastede the names „Jaderberg“ and „Rastederberg“ arose and thus the affiliation to the municipalities Jade and Rastede respectively.
In Rastederberg, an Eilert HOBBIE was first named around 1600, according to local chronicles. In the „Mannzahlregister“ (defence recruitment register) of 1581 and earlier he is not mentioned yet, so that he is considered as the first „HOBBIE from Rastederberg“ in this area. From 1819, outgoing sons also settled temporarily on the new Brinksitzerstelle „Am Schanzer Weg 149“, and from 1849 also on the Altköterei on „Hahnermoorweg 23“, also existing since 1600.
The Altköterei „Am Rastederberg 5“ was located about 50 m south of the later address „Hahnermoorweg 12“, where a direct descendant lived until about 2010. The following Oldenburg Vogteikarte shows to scale the location of the Hobbie’sche Köterei „Am Rastederberg 5“ around 1797 and the settlement of the area at that time.
The families „HOBBIE from Rastederberg“ until around 1920
The spelling of the names mainly follows the baptismal registers and documents. Also in the Rasteder church books the Low German spelling „Hobje“ is preferred repeatedly, among other things by Pastor Anton Maes from 1701 to 1740. The German names for farmers and farm hands are retained and are to be interpreted as follows:
„Hausmann, Meier“ = farmer with a long-established hereditary farm, one of the first settlers in a village,
„Köter“ = farmer with a smaller, later founded farm,
„Altköter“ = Köter on an early founded Köterei,
„Halbköter, Viertelköter“ = Köter with less land,
„Brinksitzer“ = small farmer on the outskirts of the village,
„Anbauer“ = farmer on newly cultivated land,
„Grundheuermann“ = farm hand with own house on non-inherent land,
„Heuermann, Heuerling“ = farm hand without own house,
„Häusling“ = person without own house,
„Dienstknecht, Knecht“ = farm hand.
